The island of Ortigia is the oldest and most fascinating part of Syracuse, a place where the major civilizations of the Mediterranean have left their traces in more than three thousand years. In just one square kilometer there are Greek temples and Christian churches, Swabian, Aragonese and Baroque palaces, courtyards, Arab alleys, shops, little houses and lbig public buildings.

The itinerary starts from Ponte Umbertino which connects the island with the mainland. Continuing towards Via Apollonion we will admire the ruins of the Apollo Temple, the oldest temple in stone built by the Greeks in the west.

The guided tour will continue towards the center of the island passing through Piazza Archimede with its beautiful Diana Fountain, Giulio Moschetti’s work. After a short walk through the alleys we will reach Piazza Duomo. The square, one of the most beautiful in Italy, shines thanks to the limestone of the buildings around it: the Cathedral, the Town Hall or Palazzo VermexioPalazzo Beneventano.
